The Three Chickens - and Five Other Tales
The Three Chickens is the product of a storytelling workshop I did at the Madison Children's Museum in 2015 called Writer's Block – in it I produced many brilliant stories with the help of my many children attendees.
I'd show up on Saturday afternoons with a prompt – "Monster Ballerinas," say, or "The Sandwich that Did not Want to Be Eaten." Then, with some gentle guidance, the children told me how the story went. There are similarities between this process and those I learned to engage later in the Danza de la Pulga and my Expressive Arts workshops.
They took home pamphlets of their own illustrations, while I took home the stories. I fleshed them out, illustrated them, and designed this book. Then I crowd-funded publication costs.
There are six stories in the book, each delightfully told and richly illustrated. They were sold in Wisconsin at the Madison Children's Museum, Rainbow Bookstore Cooperative, and Four Star Video Cooperative.
I’d be happy to send you a copy for the price of shipping and an optional pay-what-you-will donation.
